The Royal Adelaide Coffee Show has come to a close, and the results are in: The Coffee Bean Roasting House has taken the event by storm with an impressive haul of awards, which include gold in two categories, silver in a further two and an additional bronze.
The Dubbo-based regional NSW roaster competed for the top spots in multiple categories containing over 300 competing entrants and has emerged victorious, being awarded not one, but multiple accolades, cementing The Coffee Bean Roasting House’s place as one of the best in the business. With over three decades of experience and a passion for coffee that's evident in every cup, it's no surprise that they’ve come out on top.
“I am incredibly proud of our roasting team,” says Josh Angus, General Manager. “I know they put their heart and soul into the sourcing, roasting and packaging of our beans, and these multiple awards from industry experts confirm that we roast with love and care, and skill.”
The Coffee Bean Roasting House team, which consists of Chris Briggs, (Manager of Central & Western NSW), Steve Briggs (Roaster), Jayden Matterson (Roaster) and Scott Bithrey (Manager of Northern NSW), was awarded several medals across various categories, including espresso and filter coffee. The judges praised their attention to detail, consistency, and unique flavour profiles, making The Coffee Bean Roasting House a standout in a highly competitive field.
The awards included the prestigious gold in both Class 2: Espresso Imported Blend (score 95/100) and Class 4: Latte Single Origin (score 95/100), silver in both Class 1: Espresso Single Origin (score: 94/100) and Class 8: Plunger Imported Blend (score 94/100), as well as a bronze in Class 5: Latte Imported Blend (score 88/100).
“This is only possible after decades of hard work. I acknowledge the tireless efforts of our former General Manager, Derek Sykes, the leadership from our leadership team, and the commitment to quality the whole team has. We’re inquisitive by nature. We can’t help but ask: How? Why? – and that pushes us to try things, experiment and push boundaries,” says Josh Angus
The Royal Adelaide Coffee Show is one of the most prestigious events on the coffee calendar, and winning multiple awards here is a significant achievement for any roaster. Entries are judged by a panel of knowledgeable industry experts who recognise and celebrate the highest levels of craftsmanship in local and international coffee roasting. The panel includes distinguished roasters, green bean buyers, trainers, and educators working in the specialty coffee scene and submissions are independently judged and awarded.
The Coffee Bean Roasting House's success is a clear indication of their commitment to quality and their passion for the art of coffee, and we can't wait to see what they do next, all the way in Dubbo and right across Australia.
“Dubbo deserves to be a foodie hub,” says Josh Angus. “As one of only a few multi-awarded, regionally based coffee roasters, we’re continually investing in research and development of our products and what regional coffee drinkers want, and this is what has led us to begin working on having a ‘roastery door’ café on-site.
“Currently under consideration by the local council, we hope that by spring this year, we’ll be serving our award-winning coffee from state-of-the-art equipment on-site in Douglas Mawson Road. We’ll be running multiple grinders and serving a rotational selection of single origins and blends from our range. It will be something completely unseen in Dubbo.”
