How Coffee Bean Supports the NSW Police Regional Education Training Centre in Dubbo

When the NSW Police Regional Education Training Centre opened in Dubbo in October 2024, Coffee Bean Roasting House was already familiar with the demands of supplying coffee equipment inside a major regional training environment.

The new Centre sits beside the NSW RFS State Training Academy, where our team had established a long-running relationship supplying and supporting automatic coffee machines, roasted coffee and other hot-drink products.

During the RETC's early stages, NSW Police used training rooms and accommodation at the neighbouring RFS Academy. Officers saw the coffee equipment in use, how well it was received and the value of having an automatic machine available on site. When the new Centre was being established, NSW Police contacted Coffee Bean directly.

Since opening, Coffee Bean has supplied the RETC with a Dr Coffee Minibar S2 Plus, Director's Choice coffee, drinking chocolate, cleaning products, training and ongoing technical support.

A regional training hub for police officers across NSW

The NSW Police Regional Education Training Centre officially opened in Dubbo on 3 October 2024. The purpose-built facility acts as a hub for officers from regional NSW to complete mandatory, fundamental, specialist and leadership training without travelling to coastal academies for every requirement.

The $41 million Centre brings firearms, defensive tactics and Active Armed Offender training together with simulation rooms, classrooms, lecture rooms, indoor scenario areas and vehicle movement space. It serves officers from the Western, Northern and Southern regions.

Training can be completed closer to the communities in which officers work, reducing avoidable travel and time away from frontline duties. The people using the Centre change according to the scheduled course or mandatory training program.

That pattern matters when planning a shared coffee point. The equipment is not being used by the same small office team every day. It needs to be simple for changing users, consistent without requiring barista skills and suitable for a professional facility where people move between classrooms, simulations and practical training.

A relationship that grew from the neighbouring RFS Academy

The RETC account did not begin with a cold sales approach. It grew from Coffee Bean's existing relationship with the adjacent NSW RFS State Training Academy.

Before the police facility opened, NSW Police used parts of the RFS Academy for training rooms and accommodation. The centres also share a partnership around catering and dining services. This gave officers direct experience of the coffee equipment Coffee Bean already supplied and supported at the RFS site.

At the RFS Academy, Coffee Bean supports two Dr Coffee F2 Plus machines in the cafeteria and a WMF 1100 S in the recreation space. NSW Police saw that the machines were well received and useful on site. When the RETC required its own coffee setup, the organisation approached Coffee Bean directly.

It is a useful example of a commercial relationship growing through day-to-day performance rather than broad claims about service.

A Dr Coffee Minibar S2 Plus for shared self-service

NSW Police purchased a Dr Coffee Minibar S2 Plus for the Centre.

The Minibar S2 Plus is an automatic bean-to-cup coffee and hot-drink machine. It grinds whole beans for each coffee, uses a touchscreen for drink selection and includes a powder hopper that can dispense drinking chocolate. Officers can prepare a drink without needing to understand espresso extraction, dosing or milk texturing.

That makes the machine suitable for a training facility used by changing groups. The advised capacity is up to 150 cups per day, depending on the drink menu, setup, cleaning and pattern of use. Capacity figures do not determine suitability on their own, but the model provides more room for regular shared use than a domestic or entry-level office machine.

At the RETC, the Minibar S2 Plus is connected to mains water rather than relying on its internal tank. This reduces repeated refilling and provides a more practical arrangement for an established workplace coffee point.

Coordinating plumbing and installation

For the RETC installation, a plumber prepared the appropriate mains water line and outlet. Coffee Bean Operations Manager Chris then completed the final machine connection, setup and commissioning.

This keeps the licensed plumbing work separate from the final connection and configuration by someone familiar with the equipment. Setup includes checking the water supply, loading the selected products, configuring drinks and confirming that cleaning can be completed properly.

Director's Choice coffee and drinking chocolate

The RETC uses Director's Choice, one of Coffee Bean Roasting House's darker and fuller-bodied blends. It has rich chocolate and deep caramel notes and works particularly well through milk.

It is a practical blend for an automatic workplace machine because it has enough body to remain present in milk-based drinks and suits people who prefer a stronger, familiar espresso style. Coffee Bean supplies the blend as part of the ongoing account rather than leaving the Centre to source unrelated beans after purchasing the equipment.

The machine is also supplied with Coffee Bean drinking chocolate. Its powder hopper allows hot chocolate to be prepared through the same self-service system, providing an option for people who do not want coffee without requiring another appliance or manual preparation.

Cleaning products are supplied alongside the drink products. An automatic machine needs the correct cleaning products and a routine understood by the people responsible for the area. Without that, even good equipment and coffee will not perform consistently.

Training for everyday operation and maintenance

Coffee Bean provided training on how to use the Minibar S2 Plus and complete its daily maintenance. This includes following cleaning prompts, managing the coffee and chocolate supply, checking the drink systems and recognising when an issue should be referred to Coffee Bean.

The purpose is not to turn RETC staff into technicians. It is to give the people responsible for the shared area enough knowledge to operate the machine properly and prevent avoidable problems. In a site used by changing groups, responsibility for cleaning and restocking needs to remain clear even though many people may use the machine.

Monthly supply with room to adjust

The Centre generally orders coffee, drinking chocolate and cleaning products monthly, with supply based on what is required.

This is more practical than forcing a new facility into a rigid quantity before its use is understood. Training schedules can change both attendance and product demand.

Because Coffee Bean supplies both the equipment and the products used through it, the team can assess issues in context. If drink quality changes, Coffee Bean can consider the beans, machine programming, cleaning process and equipment condition together rather than treating each part as another supplier's responsibility.

Local technical support after installation

The relationship did not end when the machine was commissioned. Coffee Bean remains available for technical support, scheduled servicing and breakdown assistance.

The RETC can contact the team directly, including by mobile phone, when an issue needs to be assessed. Some problems can be resolved through straightforward guidance. Where hands-on attention is required, the machine is prioritised because it serves a shared regional training facility.

Coffee Bean generally returns supported machines at the RFS and RETC sites to operation within 48 hours and often within four hours. This is not a guarantee for every repair, particularly where a specific part must be sourced. It reflects the service history and the advantage of a local team that knows the equipment and installation.

The account is supported by Operations Manager Chris and General Manager Josh, providing continuity across equipment, servicing and product supply.

What other regional workplaces can take from the RETC setup

The RETC story is not about installing the largest machine available. It is about matching a new facility with an automatic coffee setup that suits its expected use, plumbing, drink requirements and need for straightforward operation.

It also demonstrates the value of an established local relationship. NSW Police had already seen Coffee Bean's machines operating at the RFS Academy. The enquiry came from practical experience of the equipment and support.

Other training centres, government facilities, schools, mines and large workplaces can apply the same approach. Consider changing user numbers, plumbing, cleaning responsibility, non-coffee drinks and access to technical support.

Different workplaces need different coffee solutions

A coffee machine that works well in a small administration office may not be suitable for a training academy, a busy automotive business or a workplace where demand changes from week to week.

The right setup depends on more than headcount. We consider expected cups per day, peak demand, available plumbing, milk and powder requirements, cleaning responsibilities, the people who will use the machine and how coffee and consumables will be replenished.

Our customer stories explain those decisions rather than simply showing a finished machine.
